Shadow has a unique quality - irrespective of the color or creed, they are always black. Indeed a rose, Lotus or for that matter any flower grown in a pond will always have a black shadow. There are varieties of Shadowgraphy.
R. Sumanth is an expert of Shadowgraphy, which he learnt under the guidance of his father, a recipient of “Ugadi Puraskar”, Late. M K Raghavendra.
Mr. Raghavendra practiced and performed this art all over the world for over 50 years. He had performed over 12000 shows which included prestigious functions viz “World humor conference” and “World Kannada Conference” etc.
His father's achievements encouraged Sumanth to have a second thought in continuing his monotonous “Software Engineer job”. This made him pursue music & Shadowgraphy as a profession. Sumanth is performing since the past twelve years & has mastered the art.
One of the most famous types of Shadowgraphy is the “THOLU BOMMALATTAM” from Andhra Pradesh. The variety that is talked about now is a rare and an ancient form of art, since only two hands (10 fingers) are used in front of the light for the entire performance.
